Train Rides

Turntable Train Rides

Take a ride aboard our restored Chessie System caboose on the historic Port Jervis turntable! This turntable, built circa 1927, is the largest operating railroad turntable on the east coast, and Port Jervis is one of the few places in North America where the public has the opportunity to ride one of these fascinating pieces of history. The caboose will be pulled onto the turntable by one of our vintage diesel locomotives and spun 180 degrees, allowing riders to view our entire railyard from this unique vantage point. These rides, which last about 8 minutes, are offered during select regular open days and special events only.

Locomotive Cab Rides

On days that we are running the Turntable Train Rides, our crews are often happy to bring interested kids (and adults!) into the cab of one of our operating diesel locomotives to ride and experience these amazing machines! Blow the horn, ring the bell, learn about the controls, and watch the engineer at work as the caboose is carefully positioned on the turntable. There is no additional charge for this experience, but donations are always appreciated to help us cover the fuel and maintenance costs to keep these locomotives running.

This experience is offered at the discretion of the operating personnel and may not be available on all operating dates. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum of two cab riders per trip due to space constraints.
